¡@¡@In view of the arrival of knowledge economy, the government
realized that the focus of global competitions has been transformed
from the competition of quantity and physical stamina to one of
innovation and quality. We have to break out of the old perception
mode developed in the industrial age, and to evolve in tandem with
international mainstream thoughts, so to secure our new positioning
and new driving forces in the ferocious international economy.
Therefore, since 2005, the government has started to promote
software-quality elevation project, with CMMI at its core.
¡@¡@CMMI, or Capability Maturity Model Integration, is a process
improvement approach developed by SEI (Software Engineering
Institute), which is a joint venture of the U.S. Dept. of Defense
and Carnegie Mellon University. CMMI can be used in such
professional field as software engineer, system engineering,
integrated product development and acquisition, so their processes
and developments can be evaluated and improved. CMMI has become an
internationally recognized process of software development.
¡@¡@As a result of government promotion, 73 Taiwanese software
companies have applied CMMI, 46 met appraisal requirements, and an
estimated total of 70 companies will meet appraisal requirements in
2007. In addition, the government has many people trained as CMMI
Lead Appraisers and Instructors to uplift the quality of software
development in Taiwan to meet international standards. Also, the
government likes to take the opportunity to enhance our
intra-industrial competitivity as well as domestic and overseas
commerce opportunities. More than a globally recognized process and
quality standard for software development, CMMI is also a key
element of international cooperation. To speed the implementation of
vertical division and horizontal integration, it is important for us
to use CMMI to standardize operations. We hope that all software
development entities understand the essence of CMMI and strictly
abide by its regulations to secure a brighter future.
¡@¡@For enterprises in Taiwan to better understand CMMI, Industrial
Development Bureau of Ministry of Economic Affairs put out this
booklet of ¡§A Brief Introduction of CMMI Companies in Taiwan, 2006,
¡¨ which contains information about the companies, as well as
descriptions and pictures of their products. The information listed
is provided by each company, but not used in their business
operations. |
