¡@¡@To further develop the information service industry of the R. O.
C., on March 4, 2004, Science and Technology Advisory Group of
Executive Yuan held the conference of ¡§Strategy of Information
Service Industry.¡¨ In that conference, it proposed a cooperation and
integration system for the development of information service
industry, with the purpose of effectively adding extra values on the
manufacturing industry as well as boosting the competitiveness in
strategic service industry. This, it has hoped, would elevate the R.
O. C. to become a major global information service provider in
specific fields. In the 2884th meeting convened by Executive Yuan on
March 31, 2004, the attendees passed ¡§Guideline and Action Plans for
Service Industry Development.¡¨ The consented guideline contained
concrete operational procedures such as guiding local companies to
adopt information service certification system (like ITIL, CMMI,) so
to improve service processes, and increase expert knowledge and
professional know-how. Later, in the national conference for service
industry on Sept. 20, 2004, CMMI was embraced as the key measure to
improve the quality of local information service industry. With this
measure, the government has demonstrated its resolution to promote
the adoption of software quality classification system and has
expected that in the global economy our software industry will
advance to competitive levels.

1. 70 business enterprises will be certified as level 3, and 3
enterprises as level 5
2. CMMI-certified business enterprises will be guided to participate
in the bidding for large-scale government information contracts
